Salisbury is a Cathedral city in the county of Wiltshire. It is a very popular tourist attraction in the south of England and just 8 miles south of Stonehenge. It’s very popular with local and overseas visitors and you’ll often see guided tours taking place.
No only do we have the Cathedral, we also have some interesting museums that can be found in The Close. Edward Heath, a former Prime Minister of the UK, also used to live here in Arundells.
Salisbury Cathedral is over 750 years old and features the tallest spire of any cathedral in the land. It contains the oldest working medieval clock in the world, made by 1386.
Guided tours of the Cathedral Tower are available and they can be booked online. Salisbury Cathedral is usually open from 09:00 – 17:00 in the summer and 12:00 to 16:00 in the winter.

Salisbury Is A Cathedral City – Places to Visit
The Salisbury Museum – The Kings House, 65 The Close. Includes the King’s House Cafe.
The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum – The Wardrobe, 58 The Close.
Mompesson House – The Close, Salisbury SP1 2EL.
Arundells – The former home of Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath.
St Thomas’s Church is located in St Thomas’s square and is just a few hunderd yards away from the Cathedral Close.
Did you know that Salisbury market is held on Saturdays and Tuesdays. It’s well worth a visit if you happen to be visiting on either of those days.
Other interesting Tourist attractions
There are some very well known tourist attractions that are just a short distance from Salisbury.
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in South Wiltshire, about 2 miles west of Amesbury and 8 miles north of Salisbury. There is a visitor centre on site and it’s well worth a visit if you want to know more about the history of Stonehenge.
Wilton House is an English country house situated at Wilton near Salisbury. It has been the country seat of the Earls of Pembroke for over 400 years.
Living In The City
I moved here a little over 15 years ago and can’t think of a nicer place to live.
The Old George Mall is very popular with Marks And Spencer and a superb range of other places to shop.
As well as a great range of shops in the city, we also have a market on the square on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It’s extremely popular with local residents and visitors and an idea place to buy some fresh fruit and veg. You’ll also find staple foods such as meat, cheese and a whole lot more.
My partner and I go into Salisbury on both market days so that she can buy some fresh veg. She just loves broad beans so the hunt is on to find some when they’re available. 🙂
We also have some of the larger stores out on the Southampton Road (A36) such as Tesco, Lidl and B&Q. So, you can get most things locally although many take the trip to Southampton if they want the larger department stores.
We also benefit from having a Bradbeers and a Primark now so that should please the shoppers.
We also have a great range of pubs in Salisbury should you fancy a drink and a bite to eat.
Retirement City
Not only is the city a popular tourist attraction, it’s also proving to be a great place to retire. Many of them are situated close to all of the facilities including a fabulous range of shops, buses as well as doctor’s surgeries.
