I’ve been enjoying my retirement in Salisbury for the past few years and spend quite a lot of my time enjoying all that there is to see in the area. It’s an historic city and it seems to be a very popular tourist destination.
Of course, this is no surprise as Salisbury is close to both Stonehenge, Old Sarum, Wilton House and many other fascinating attractions. Starting my retirement in Salisbury was certainly a good move.
I did a little research on what happens in Salisbury on a weekly basis. It turns out that they have market days on Tuesday and Saturday.
I’ve been along on a few occasions and it’s really busy. If you’re looking for fresh fruit and veg then this is the place to come.
It’s also a great social occasion and I saw plenty of people nattering to each other.
Pubs in Salisbury
I’ve also discovered some very nice pubs in Salisbury, around the city.
One in particular struck me as being very friendly and, whilst not everyone’s cup of tea, is very popular. The pub in question is Wetherspoons (J D Wetherspoon) although many know it as just Spoons.
I meet some friends in there on market days and it’s like a social club for the over 50s. We usually have coffee or hot chocolate. There are free top ups on hot drinks as well..
Retirement In Salisbury
I’ve been doing a little research into retirement villages in Salisbury and have discovered a very nice one called Chapters in Fountain Way, off of Wilton Road. From what I’ve seen, there are some very nice apartments for sale as well as shared ownership.
I’ve also noticed Finch House and have to say that it looks very attractive. It looks like it’s built on the site of the Old Manor Hospital which was once a psychiatric hospital.
